You are here:--What is Ramadan and why do Muslims value it

As a non Muslim you may wonder what is Ramadan and why is it very important in the sight of many of your Muslim colleagues, friends and family. Follow me on this journey as we learn something new.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calender. It is the month where all Muslims are obliged to fast from dawn to sundown, meaning we abstain from eating, drinking, sexual relations from dawn till sundown.

The month is full of immense blessings from the most High as the gates of Paradise are open and the gates of hell are closed. Each day is viewed precious to the heart of the muslim because of the blessing abound in it.

We increase our acts of worship like being charitable, kind, praying during the day and night, reading of God’s word (The Quran), etc by this time of the year. All the above is done seeking only the pleasure of Our Creator.

It is in this month we strive to get our sins forgiven by making repentance to God and remaining steadfast in obedience to Him everyday.

The main goal of this blessed month is summarized by God Almighty in the Quran

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous” Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow) Verse 183

What beautiful memories of Ramadan can you share with us!
