Happily Married Couples: Outside Or Inside The Home?
The battle in striving to please the world is what we find prevalent amongst many people. Unfortunately, this has crept into our marriages too. Many couples struggle to show the world an image of their marriage that is pleasing to the eyes of others, however when the same “Happily Married Couples” go back home there is a totally different reality.
What really matters? Is it the people outside your marriage or your spouse? Who deserves to be happy, the people or your spouse? Reflect on this deeply.
There is an ‘ayah(Verse) in the Qur’an where Allah(The Most High) says to us:
“… They (your wives) are clothing for you and you are clothing for them…”
Surah Al-Baqarah Chapter 2 Verse 187
Due to immense importance of clothing as we all know, marriage is likened to it. The intimacy you share, the benefit you derive from it and the care you give to it. Allah is drawing our attention to the great importance of our spouse and why they matter. We do not owe the world any obligation to show any image of our marriage, but we owe our spouses their rights to make them feel they really matter to us.
Learn From The Best
We have in the life of the best of Creation (Prophet Muhammad – Peace be upon him) countless examples on how he showed to his wives that they matter to him. He has been reported to have good quality time with his wives, assisted them in some household chores, gave them opportunities to smiles, protected them and showed love to them while they were with him and in their absence. He strove to fulfill their rights on him and showed them how important they were to him.
One of the key benefit of fulfilling the rights of your spouse is the opportunity of making the home a place of joy, happiness, tranquility and respect. It will also be a good abode to raise children to uphold similar values like mum and dad. I will like to leave you with this few powerful words of our Creator:
“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded”
Surah At-Tahrim Chapter 66 Verse 6
